Cell phone has altered human relations There is usually a note on the door of conference room, which reads “close your handset|” However, the rings are still resounding in the room We are all common people and has few urgencies to do Still, we are reluctant to turn off the phone Cell phone symbolizes our connection with the world and reflects our “thirst for socialization” We are familiar with the scene when a person stops his steps to edit short messages with eyes glued at his phone, disregard of his location, whether in road center or beside restroom
China's State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) recently issued a notice banning domestic radio and TV stations from translating foreign radio and TV programmes into any local dialect The notice said that such dialect translation contradicts the national initiative to promote Putonghua, or Mandarin, around the country Foreign programmes that have been translated into dialects must be removed from television and radio immediately The notice evoked a mixed response from experts and audio and video producers, as well as the general public Many voiced their concerns that local dialects would be fornidden in public places Mandarian, which means “common language”, is the country's predominant language and is widely used by more than 70 percent of the population However, local dialects still enjoy pupularity for relatively less-educated people in some occasions The dialects do make unique role and should be tolerated for existence in public places
Though promoted widely in public places, dialects are acceptable in public places First, it is more than a mere tool for communication It is, most importantly, the messenger of its respective culture If the dialect was eliminated from daily use, the culture will be broken Second, Mandarian can absorb the elit part of local dialect to enrich its vovabulary and usuge This is the perfection of Mandartian from thousands of years blend and contact The dialects can also be popular in the public Along with the famous short play by comic actors in NE China, the local dialect came into the splotlight, and enjoyed more pupulatity throughout China Such a cultural phenomenon represents the audience an attitude to local dialects which cater to the taste of the majority Third, dialect is the only mean of communication to some undereducated local people If local dialects are fobbiden in the public places, they can not communicate
To sum up, local dialects should be tolerated in public places for its unique role which Mandarian can not substitute We should guartee its survival because dialects stand for our spiritual land From a long-term perspective, dialects should not and would not be wiped out There is no need for any purposeful and deliberate attempt to protect dialects Just let dialects take their natural course The best way to protect a dialect is to use it in daily life and pass it down from generation to generation
范文一
Students Should Be Required to Wear School Uniform
Of all the great changes that have taken place in the system of compulsory education, school uniform of diverse patterns has proved to be a success Today, however, a controversy towards school uniform stretches widely as it is feared that such uniform somewhat diminishes the individual personality of students My opinion is that it is worth the praise it has received
In the first place, school uniform helps students foster team spirit and strengthen the spirit of cooperation Providing a sense of unity, the uniform makes everyone feel that he or she is influential and indispensable in the team Regardless of performance in class or examination, one student is wearing the same clothes as the others and working on his share for the team responsibility Naturally they will be willing to participate in the team and proud of their contributions Brought up in this caring and inclusive environment, students will have an easy time functioning in new community and collaborating with coworkers
In the second place, school uniform reinforces the sense of equality for a diversified student body School uniform tends to narrow down the discrepancy between students from families of low and high economic status In this sense it may help lift some psychological obstacles Owing to school uniform, the bias against poor students will disappear gradually Had it not been for school uniform, wearing shabby clothes would be a constant reminder of poor family conditions And what’s worse, they would feel ashamed of whom they are and the low self-esteem may have adverse impacts on study
Last but not least, school uniform takes effect when accidents occur and the safety of students is endangered The name or logo of school printed on uniform will help witness to know the victim’s identity and come to timely and efficient aid
On the whole, students will benefit a great deal from their uniforms for the reasons ranging from their personality cultivation to aids in face of danger Considering all above factors, it bears no reasoning to abandon school uniform

People have different views on what children should do at a very early age Some think that children should begin their formal education and start to spend most of their time on studies Others believe that it is still time for young children to play Both views are based on respective ground
Those who argue for the playing time for children suggest that children at a very early age are still too young to focus their attention on learning Their brain may not be ready for serious studies such as comprehension and memorizing learning materials These people are partially right, for it is true that young children can hardly concentrate Their attention on one thing lasts for no longer than 15 minutes or so But we can arrange classes for shorter periods, can't we And we can shift teaching subjects Through putting them to study, young children are occupied with learning but not with playing
Those who argue for children's early commencement for formal education believe that being put to studies, children can develop good habit of studying, for the process of learning helps develop children's mental abilities like the ability to memorize, the ability to understand and the ability to do simple calculation Children's habit of studying and love for learning are of great importance to youngsters because these two things set up the sound foundation for their future studies
Having children start formal education at a very early age benefits young children much more than simply letting them play most of their time A good habit needs a long time to develop to become a second nature More importantly, it is better to develop a good habit before a bad one may grow Similarly, the love for learning should take toots for before the love for playing is established

Opera is expensive: that much is inevitable
Kinship yields to a sudden alienation
(参考译文: My supervisor is an Asian, a badtempered heavy smoker and drinker)
(1)My tutor came from an Asian family He was badtempered and loved smoking and drinking
(2)My tutor was an Asian descendant, who was addicted to cigarettes and alcoholic drinks His temper was hot
(3)My tutor was an Asian descendant, who liked smoking and drinking He had a hot temper
(参考译文: Canada is a vast, sparsely populated country with its land area larger than that of China, and a population under 30 million)
(1)Canada has vast land but a small number of people It occupies more area than China does, but has only a population less than 30 million
(评语: 没有从英语句式特点的角度来组织译文,而是按照原文句子的排列顺序逐字逐句地硬翻,结果是句子不连贯通顺。个别处用词不确切,如: a small number of people。)
(2)Canada has a large land but with little population The national land is even larger than China But the population is less than 30 million
(评语: 存在与上句类似的毛病。)
(3)Canada is a country of remote land and small population, with its territory even bigger than China while its population is less than 30 million
(1) 强化两种语言对比的意识,加深对两种语言结构不同点的认识;
(2) 加强对语言文化背景知识的了解;
(3) 加强翻译理论及技巧的教学,强调理论与技巧的运用;培养熟练运用各种翻译技巧的意识与能力;
PETS(Public English Test System)全国英语等级考试,针对社会人员。
CET4/6(College English Test)全国英语四/六级考试,针对所有大中专本科学生
TEM-4/8(Test for English Majors)
