在数学arg表示复数的辐角，是argument of a complex number（复数的辐角）的缩写。例如：

z = r(cosθ + i sinθ)

r是z的模，即：r = |z|;

θ是z的辐角，记作：θ = arg(z)

任意一个不为零的复数z=a+bi的辐角有无限多个值，且这些值相差2π的整数倍。把适合于-π<θ≤π的辐角θ的值，叫做辐角的主值，记作Argz。辐角的主值是唯一的。且有arg（z）=Arg（z）+2kπ

函数argmax，是对函数求参数(集合)的函数。当有另一个函数y=f(x)时，若有结果x0= argmax(f(x))，则表示当函数f(x)取x=x0的时候，得到f(x)取值范围的最大值；若有多个点使得f(x)取得相同的最大值，那么argmax(f(x))的结果就是一个点集。换句话说，argmax(f(x))是使得 f(x)取得最大值所对应的变量点x(或x的集合)。

对一个函数f(x)或一个映射f：X→Y ，当x取值范围为S的时候（也叫x∈S），argmax的结果是使得f(x)取得最大值的x点集。所以如果明确指出x∈S的话，则表示并非在所有f(x)的输入变量范围内进行最大结果值搜索。
