Junior Brother

英语是母语的人，说brother就是亲弟弟或者亲哥哥。不用加任何修饰，当然，为了表示是“弟弟”，可以说“junior brother”，表示是哥哥可以说“senior brother”或者“elder brother”。

如果不是亲的，老外是不说brother的。如果是表哥/堂哥,用cousin。 如果是姐夫，就是brother-in-law。

英语里亲戚的称呼

一、Immediate family 直系亲属

英语中的直系亲属主要包括父母、兄弟姐妹（siblings）、配偶（spouses）和子女。

在这些称呼里，有些称呼身兼数职，比如brother（兄弟）和sister（姐妹）。要特指哥哥或姐姐，就要说elder brother / elder sister，弟弟和妹妹则是younger brother / younger sister。

这里的brother和sister特指有血缘关系兄弟姐妹。

二、Extended family 近亲

近亲一般表示三代以内的亲属关系，比如（外）祖父母以及我们常说的七大姑八大姨等。

1、Grandparents

英文中的称呼（外）祖父母，不像中国分为爷爷奶奶、外公外婆，而是统称grandfather或grandmother。

但是如果向别人介绍的时候要说明是爸爸或妈妈一方的可以用paternal grandfather来指代爷爷，maternal grandfather来指代外公。

外国人在称呼自己的祖父母的时候也有很多种亲昵的叫法哟！比如，爷爷、外公可以叫作granddad、grandpa等，奶奶、外婆可以叫作granny、nana、grandma等。而曾祖父母则用great-grandparent来指代。

2、万能的uncle、aunt

不同于中文里的七大姑八大姨，英文里父母一辈的亲戚称呼起来特别简单，一个uncle和一个aunt几乎可以搞定一切。

uncle不仅可以用来指代叔叔、伯伯、舅舅，还能用来称呼姑父、姨夫等。总之，只要是和父母一辈的男性长辈，用uncle准没错。同理，姑、姨、婶母、伯母和舅母之类的长辈，一个aunt也全部能搞定！

uncle和aunt除了指亲戚关系外，也可以用来称呼父母的朋友，就相当于中文里的叔叔阿姨。

那这么多uncle、aunt搞混了咋办，外国人的办法就是将长辈的名字加在称呼的后面，比如uncle Mike、aunt Emma。

而我们常说的的堂哥堂妹、表哥表妹等，也只用一个cousin就全部解决啦！

三、In-law姻亲

英文中想要表达岳父岳母，女婿儿媳一类的说法也很简单，只需在对应称呼的后面加上in-law就可以了，代表法律上的关系。比如：

mother-in-law 岳母

son-in-law 女婿

daughter-in-law 儿媳

对于中文里的姐夫、妹夫、小叔子、小舅子等等复杂的称呼，一句brother-in-law就全部搞定！而嫂子、姨子、姑子等，也是用一个sister-in-law就解决啦！

还有一些因家庭重组而产生的新的家庭关系。比如：继父继母的英文就是stepfather / stepmother ，继子继女则被称为stepson / stepdaughter。

同父异母或者同母异父的兄弟姐妹的英文说法是half-brother / half-sister。

养父养母的英文说法为adoptive parents，被领养的孩子被称为 adopted son / adopted daughter。
